Anonymous, Time of Gallienus AD 253-268. Sestertius. Ae 29 mm. 14.0 gm. Rome. Obv: GENIVS PR. Radiate bust of Genius right, with features of Gallienus. Rev: INT / VRB. Large S C within wreath. MIR 702h; RIC 2 (Interregnum; sestertius). Very Rare. This rare bronze issue was previously attribiuted to the Interregnum period between Aurelian and Tacitus. It is now believed to be a commemorative issue struck by Gallienus to celebrate his victories over the Herulians and Goths. Gallienus was murdered in Milan before his planned triumphant return to Rome.
