Domitius Domitianus, Usurper Emperor, briefly in Egypt 297/8

Auction, Roman Imperial

Domitianus was promoted to emperor in 297 in the context of an uprising that had broken out in the area of Thebes and quickly spread to lower Egypt. Domitianus minted coins according to the Hellenistic style, probably to make himself popular with the population of Alexandria.
